Provisional agenda of the 1999 WGIP

  1. Election of officers.
  2. Adoption of the agenda.
  3. Organization of the work of the session.
  4. Review of developments pertaining to the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people: general statements.
  5. Principal theme : Indigenous peoples and their relationship to land:
    1. Presentation of the second progress report of the Special Rapporteur of the Sub-Commission on indigenous peoples and their relationship to land.
  6. Indigenous peoples and health : follow-up and recent developments.
  7. Standard-setting activities including possible guidelines for private sector energy and mining concerns.
  8. Consideration of the final report of the Special Rapporteur of the Sub-Commission on treaties, agreements and other constructive arrangements between States and indigenous populations.
  9. Consideration of the report of the ad hoc working group on a permanent forum for indigenous people.
  10. International Decade of the World's Indigenous People:
    1. Voluntary Fund for the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People and report of the Advisory Group;
    2. Comments and proposals relating to the mid-point review of the Decade;
    3. Consideration of the report on the workshop on research and higher education institutions and indigenous people.
  11. Participation in the preparatory work of the World Conference to Combat Racism and Racial Discrimination.
  12. Other matters:
    1. Report on the activities undertaken by UNESCO;
    2. Meeting and seminars;
    3. Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations.
  13. Adoption of the report of the Working Group on its seventeenth session.

Participation in the 17 th session of the WGIP
